So we had a blast at the campout this weekend and on the way home we heard a weird noise. Jason pulled over to check the trailer to make sure a chain didn't come off. Everything looked fine, so we continued down the canyon. About 10 minutes later I see this cloud of smoke coming from the back of the vehicle. In a calm voice I looked back and told the kids to pull their shoulder straps back on top of them. They tend to tuck the straps behind them. Jason slowly pulled off down the exit ramp and came to a stop. We jumped out to assess the damage. The tire was completely gone, stripped off and the rim was melted down to the ground. Jason and I tried to lift the trailer ourselves, but it was too heavy. We called Frank to see if he had a car jack. No one answered the phone, so we tried to remember who was still at the campsite. Jared popped into our minds, so Jason called him to see if he could talk to Frank. Jared had already headed down the mountain and it must've been meant for us to call him because they were only 1 exit away. Jared also had the car jack Jason needed to lift the trailer. We had 2 great jacks, but the rim was so melted the trailer was too low to use either of them. We finally got on the road and made it home safely. Thanks Smith family for helping us out on Saturday!
